Final Project

December 15, 2009

For the final project I decided to do a video. And since I was in holiday mood, I did a Christmas video. I used Charlie Brown Christmas scene and “Christmas Time is Here” song from it as well. Also I used home videos of people showing off their holiday traditions which had nothing to do with the audio. People in the videos actually are reading “Twas the night before Christmas”. The idea was to show that people forgot what Christmas is about at all, and are doing completely deferent activities, but when I have removed audio from clips, they lost their meaning. So it turned out as if they actually are reading about Jesus.

Assignment #3 Chapter 2

December 15, 2009

What is the difference between using digital technologies as a tool versus as a medium?
Digital technologies have changed the way people create art. Artist use digital technology both as a tool and as its own medium. Still there is a difference in using digital technologies as a tool versus using them as a medium. People use digital technology as a tool mostly to correct some imperfections to already existing work that was created by some other means, such as drawing, painting sculpture, and other mediums. Digital technology makes correction or designing something easier than doing it by other means, it is quicker and simpler. On the other hand many artists use digital technologies as its own medium to create art completely using technologies. They capture and edit videos and pictures using digital technologies. Artists also create other works that are incapable to exist outside of digital means. Whatever digital technologies used as a tool or separate medium it is become more popular in creation of art, and more complicated to distinguish a difference.

assignment #2 Chapter 1

December 15, 2009

The impact of digital technology has transformed traditional activities such as painting, drawing and sculpture, while new forms, such as net art, digital installation art, and virtual reality, have become recognized artistic practices. More generally the term digital art is used to describe an art that is made using digital technologies in the production of artwork. In an expanded sense, digital art” is a term applied to contemporary art that uses the methods of digital media. This digital media gave artist the freedom to reach their fullest, in some ways simplifying the work it took to create art. Also digital art revolutionized what is considered to be fine art. Artists are able to create whole environments for their work, the viewers are engaging in the work. Digital media gives ability for every person to try their creativity. Slowly everything is becoming digital; it only makes sense that art did too.

Video Project

December 14, 2009

This is a quick video is for the video assignment, it was to make a 14 seconds video. I never have worked with videos before, but I had so much fun making it. I used videos from water commercial. The music is “Popcorn” by Crazy Frog on Piano. Somehow it seemed appropriate for water balloons popping.

Hugh Kretschmer

November 18, 2009

Hugh Kretschmer was originally traditional photographer, but began to evolve when he moved to New York in 1994. Dissatisfied with his work, he began to play with objects and lighting, multiple cameras and Surrealism, and allowed his love of architecture, science fiction, and painting to emerge in his images.
Hugh Kretschmer is a photographer based in Los Angeles and specializing in photo-illustration, advertising and editorial photography and design. Of his work, he says: ‘The idea is the most important ingredient. I’ve always appreciated concept because it adds another layer to the photograph and invites participation from the viewer. When I see something that is done well, where the artist really nails it, I find myself just staring. I can’t think of anything else that would be more of a compliment than that’. Kretschmer’s clients include Mastercard, Evian and the New York Times magazine.
Risk taking series:

Your work is highly conceptual. Can you talk a bit about your inspiration and how you decide what idea is worth putting into production?
‘My inspiration comes from many unidentifiable sources and is probably more like an amalgamation of different influences from many years of absorbing. I come from a very artistic family and there was a lot of reference around the house. As a result, my early work was heavily influenced by twentieth century painting and sculpture. I think the thread is still there and, perhaps, evident in the photos I did last week.

‘As far as the next personal project I put into the works, the decision is based on what will bring me the most creative satisfaction and push my book forward. It is best if it also gets me out of my comfort zone and has me trying things that I have not done: build a prop in a way that is untried or solve a visual problem by a technique I have not used before. I may sweat and I may fail. But at the end of the day, I can at least say I tried’.
